Morning Fog

As I recall, the limestone so prevalent around the central coast was formed during the Miocene Period beneath hundreds of meters of seawater, forming what was then an island archipelago.  On mornings such as this, while crossing the Laurelis Grade from Carmel Valley to Highway 68, we catch a glimpse of our geologic past, with the valleys filled with a thick layer of marine fog.
