The mask design & construction project is introduced at the start of the school year with multiple aims: to install a culture of collaboration, trust, invention and creativity; and to capture the diversity of student personalities, interests, learning styles, talents and family cultures.
The project is also a important vehicle for discussing & practicing assessment (students and I collaborated on the design of the assessment rubric, a first for many), and exploring in a very practical way the meaning of good work.
The project also provides a context for introducing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, the IB Learner Profile (a set of 10 attributes of a globally-minded citizen), and an inquiry-driven, project-based curriculum.
